About the ACCess Project
As pharmacist prescribing of birth control becomes more common, questions about young people's access and pharmacy flow become paramount. The purpose of the Adolescent Capacity for Contraception Self Screening (ACCeSS) Project was to examine adolescents' ability to consent to hormonal birth control methods after a simulated pharmacy consent process . The ACCeSS Project was funded by a grant from the Society of Family Planning.
As part of the ACCeSS Project, a toolkit of materials was developed to standardize the process and counseling delivered by pharmacists. These materials have been rigorously reviewed by a panel of experts in adolescent and pediatric medicine, adolescent gynecology, women's health and community pharmacy, and public health. Materials are free to use and will continue to be updated to reflect clinical practice.
